So many changes were happening with technology, politics, music, and fashion. If you lived through the 80s, you’d remember these popular fads.

You couldn’t survive the 80s without someone in your crew owning a ‘Boombox.’ It was the only way to bring your music to the streets! It featured one or two cassette players and an AM/FM radio. The boombox also had a nifty carrying handle. In the 80s, the bigger the boombox, the better!

If you had some athleticism, you might have tried or mastered ‘Breakdancing.’ The dance form was also known as ‘Breaking’ or ‘B-boying/B-girling.’ It originated in African-American and Puerto Rican communities in the United States.

Breakdancing mainly consists of four kinds of movements. The top-rock, down-rock, power moves and freezes. There was also the infamous head-spinning when dancers would spin quickly, putting all their body weight on their heads.

If you were going to breakdance, you probably wore the 80s fashion ‘Parachute Pants.’ They were originally known as ‘Flight pants’ because of their nylon material. Parachute pants became famous because of breakdancing. The tight-fitting material was made to emulate a parachute, and this fashion was all the rage in the 80s.

If you were taking a break from dancing, you probably played the famous ‘Rubik’s Cube.’ This 80s fad was a 3-D puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erno Rubik. It was initially called ‘The Magic Cube’ and was sold by Ideal Toy Corporation in 1980. The cube has become one of the most recognized items in 80s pop culture.

If video games were more your style, then you would’ve played ‘Pac-Man.’ Originally called ‘Puck Man’ in Japan, this 80s maze-action game was released by Namco in arcades. The game was so popular that there was even a song called ‘Pac-Man Fever.’ The 1980s were a great time to be alive, and the fads of the decade are still near and dear to our hearts.

The 1980s were a fantastic decade in America.
