“World’s loneliest lion” returned to his natural habitat after 5 years trappedin cell

15-year-old Ruben, dubbed the “world’s loneliest lion”, was trapped in a cell in an abandoned private zoo in Armenia for 5 years before rescuers Animal Defenders International relocated him to a sanctuary in Free State, South Africa on August 25. The animal had lost his roar, but is now slowly recovering.

For five long years, Ruben was trapped in a concrete cell, growing increasingly lonely to the point that he lost his roar. His situation was a result of unfortunate circumstances, as he was left behind in an abandoned zoo in Armenia after his owner’s passing. The fact that all the other animals were relocated except for him makes his plight even more poignant.

However, Ruben’s life took a positive turn when he was offered a second chance at life. His incredible 5,200-mile journey from Armenia to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in Free State, South Africa, marked a new beginning. The moment when Ruben took his first steps in his natural habitat brought tears to the eyes of those who witnessed it.

This heartwarming story highlights the importance of animal rescue organizations and the need to protect and care for animals who have been mistreated or abandoned. It also serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of animals, even in the face of adversity. Ruben’s journey from isolation and loneliness to a sanctuary where he can thrive is a testament to the impact that human kindness can have on the lives of animals.
