This is a very amazing video clip showing a mother gorilla enjoying a tender moment with her young child. There is no doubt that, as shown by the speed with which this mother and child duo unite after their first encounter, it is more than true that the love between a mother and her child is one of the most powerful forces on this planet.
At the 15-year-old gorilla Calaya gave birth to the first child, making the event even more emotional and unforgettable for everyone at the zoo. Nevertheless, nobody was let down since Calaya’s darling baby Moke quickly won over everyone’s hearts.
The infant’s name is Lingala, which means “little one” in Lingala, which is Lingala’s native tongue. During the time Calaya cradled his son tenderly in her arms, he received an array of kisses and hugs from her so that he would live with the knowledge that he was always loved and cared for.
As the Western Lowland Gorilla is an extremely endangered species that can only be found in Africa, every birth of one is a momentous event. According to Meredith Bastian, curator of primates at the Smithsonian Institution Zoo, the birth of the western lowland gorilla is a historical event for both the institution as well as the entire species as a whole.
Because of the fact that Calaya is a first-time mother, we wanted to provide her with the best possible foundation so she can succeed, and Calaya as well as the zookeepers have my full approval.
