David Cardenas Gutierrez and Ivana Cardenas Gutierrez had an ultrasound three years ago. The couple was sure that the mother was having a normal pregnancy with a child.

However it didn’t take too long to understand that wasn’t the case. As a result of what the doctor said, everything they planned changed, and the couple had to make a very difficult decision.
During the examination Ivana’s doctor saw that she was pregnant with more than one child. Not one, not two or three – but four! As David and Ivana looked at the doctor, they could not believe their eyes; they thought he was joking.

It just can’t be.. a quadruplet? It is very rare: the doctor explained to them that it happens once in 700,000 pregnancies.

Actually this was not a joke. And if that wasn’t enough, the couple faced an extremely difficult decision..
Two important facts became clear: the birth would be high risk, and it would have to happen soon. The doctor informed Ivana only on the 27th week that Gabriel, as the boy will be called, was not receiving oxygen. That situation was really dangerous.
They had to make a decision very quickly. Alternatively, do an emergency c-section to deliver all four babies, and Gabriel will not survive, but the other three will. For the couple the decision was only one, they decided to give birth to all the babies on the same day – even though their chances to be alive afterwards were only 40%.
David and Ivana were getting ready for the worst, but as long as there was a chance to save all the children they were willing to take the risk.
But that was unbelievable: all four tiny babies survived! The doctors were shocked. Quadruplets were born to Ivana and David four weeks early.

Today you can see the family healthy and complete! Julian, Sebastian, Gabriel and Francesca are 4 years old today.
