Before millions of viewers knew her name, Fayth Ifil was a young performer from Swindon with a big dream. Her 2020 Britain’s Got Talent audition became the moment that introduced her incredible voice to the world.
Just a few minutes later, her incredible performance of “Proud Mary” would earn Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer, launching her into the spotlight and changing her life forever.
Born on August 17, 2007, Fayth grew up in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. Her love for performing began when she was only three years old, and her parents quickly recognized her natural talent. They encouraged her to develop her singing while she also trained in ballet, dancing, and acting. Even before starting school, Fayth worked as a child model, appearing in advertising campaigns from around 18 months old.
As her confidence and experience grew, Fayth earned roles in some of London’s biggest productions. She performed in the West End musical School of Rock and later played young Anna Mae Bullock (young Tina Turner) in TINA – The Tina Turner Musical. She also appeared as an extra in the 2018 film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, giving her an impressive résumé before appearing on television.
Despite her experience, Fayth admitted she had struggled with confidence after receiving negative comments from classmates at school. During her audition, Simon Cowell asked whether she had ever lost confidence, and Fayth honestly explained that her parents had helped her believe in herself again and continue chasing her dream.
For her audition, she chose “Proud Mary,” a song she already knew well from performing in the Tina Turner musical. From the moment she began singing, the theatre came alive. Her powerful vocals, energetic stage presence, and confidence quickly won over both the audience and the judges, who clapped, danced, and cheered throughout the performance.
David Walliams told Fayth she looked like someone who was “born to be a superstar.” Simon Cowell praised not only her voice but also her personality and the support she had received from her parents. He reminded her never to let negative opinions define her before pressing the Golden Buzzer, sending gold confetti across the stage as Fayth burst into tears and celebrated with her family.
The Golden Buzzer sent Fayth directly to the Britain’s Got Talent live semi-finals, where she later performed “Stand Up for Something” by Andra Day. Although she narrowly missed reaching the final, she had already become one of the standout contestants of the series.
Following the show, Fayth returned for the Britain’s Got Talent Christmas Spectacular later in 2020 and continued building her career in musical theatre. In 2025, she returned to the Britain’s Got Talent stage as part of the West End cast of Just For One Day – The Live Aid Musical, performing David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
