An 11-Year-Old Took on a Difficult Song and Left Everyone Impressed

An 11-year-old boy stepped onto the stage of America’s Got Talent and chose to sing Journey’s “Open Arms.” It’s a very difficult song, originally sung by Steve Perry, known for his powerful voice and range.

Meet 11-year-old D’Corey Johnson.

The judges were interested from the start. When a kid walks on stage, you expect something good, and he didn’t disappoint.

He began singing, and right away it was clear he had a strong voice. The opening was controlled, and when the chorus came, he handled it with confidence. For someone so young, his voice sounded mature and steady.

The audience reacted quickly. The judges were impressed. It looked like everything was going smoothly.

Then Simon Cowell stopped the music.

Not because it was bad — actually the opposite. He liked it and wanted to hear more clearly what he could really do.

He asked him to sing again, but this time without music.

He agreed without hesitation.

Singing a cappella is harder because there is nothing to support the voice. But after just a few lines, he showed he didn’t need anything behind him. His voice was clear, strong, and even better without the music.

The audience stood up.
The judges stood up.

It turned into a full standing ovation.

He was emotional after the performance and simply said “thank you.”

Before coming to the show, he had already been singing from a very young age. He started at three, sang in church, and performed in musicals like Aladdin, Cats, and Annie. He had also sung the national anthem at events, which helped him gain attention even before the show.

On America’s Got Talent, he continued to the live semifinals and performed again. He didn’t reach the final, but he still left a strong impression.

Before the show, he was already performing and building experience. He had a talent agent and had taken part in tours across the United States, which helped him grow as a performer.

After the show, he returned to Louisville, Kentucky, staying positive and focused on bigger goals. He continues to perform and is working on new opportunities. He also has a band called DC and the Mix, where he plans local shows and performances.

His goal is clear — he wants to perform on Broadway and be part of major musicals like Hamilton and Wicked.

America’s Got Talent turned into a standing ovation when he finished his performance, and he really earned it. Terry Crews was smiling big, you could see he loved that moment.

All the judges said yes, giving him four yeses and sending him to the next round. The entire audience stayed on their feet, still reacting to what they had just heard.

After the show, the audition quickly spread on social media and became one of the most loved performances, with millions of views and people sharing it again and again.
