The Art of Creating Wildlife Sounds Without Instruments

There’s something deeply soothing about the sounds of nature—the gentle crashing of ocean waves, the rustle of leaves in the wind, or the distant call of animals. These natural melodies have a unique way of calming the mind and reconnecting us to the world around us. Imagine if someone could recreate all of these calming sounds using nothing but their own voice.

Geneviève Côté is not your typical performer. Without singing a note or playing an instrument, she creates entire soundscapes—ranging from crashing ocean waves to distant animal calls—using only her voice. This unique ability has brought her recognition across several Got Talent shows worldwide.

Born and raised in Laval, Québec, Geneviève developed an early fascination with sounds, beginning to imitate everyday noises as a toddler. Over the years, she refined this skill into a rare art form she calls “bruitisme”—the crafting of natural sound environments through human voice alone.

Her creative background also includes graphic design and writing, notably children’s books and satirical works. But it’s her vocal performances that have caught international attention.

In 2023, Geneviève’s jungle-inspired soundscape on Canada’s Got Talent earned her a Golden Buzzer from judge Howie Mandel. Although she didn’t win the competition, her act resonated deeply with audiences. One viewer described it as “a mother’s call from nature,” capturing the emotional warmth and connection she creates through sound. The sounds of the ocean and horses, among other elements, made people feel happiness and a love for the natural world. It wasn’t just technically impressive—it was a shared emotional experience that touched many.

Following her success in Canada, she appeared on La France a un Incroyable Talent and again received a Golden Buzzer, affirming her unique talent. In 2024, she took part in Britain’s Got Talent, impressing judges with a vocal safari that transformed the stage into a living ecosystem. Later that year, she joined America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League, selected by Howie Mandel, highlighting her as one of the most original performers across the Got Talent franchise.

Geneviève’s vocal range spans seven octaves, allowing her to recreate over 300 different sounds. But beyond technique, she aims to tell stories—immersive, auditory narratives that transport audiences to different worlds. She avoids calling herself a singer or impressionist, preferring “auditory storyteller,” emphasizing the emotional and imaginative power of sound.

When not on television, Geneviève tours internationally, performing in theaters and festivals. She also creates educational programs, like Wild Noises & Animal Voices for children, encouraging a deeper understanding of nature’s sounds. She is active in Quebec’s cultural organizations, holds a law degree, and advocates for minority-language artists, showing a commitment to culture beyond the stage.

As of 2025, Geneviève Côté continues to develop her craft and expand her influence in the arts. While she hasn’t claimed a Got Talent title, her growing international presence and repeated recognition speak to a lasting career rooted in originality and genuine connection. In a noisy world, Geneviève’s voice reminds us of the beauty found in nature—and in the human breath that can recreate it.
